[TSQ 18,885] Evidence of compliance with emissions standards5

(1) Pursuant to order 4, an importer shall provide certification from a vehicle manufacturer of the vehicle’s compliance or equivalence to Euro 4 standards for a vehicle imported from a country other than those specified in paragraph (2).
(2) The following standards may be used to determine standards equivalent to or consistent with Euro 4 standards—
  • (a)Vehicles imported from Japan

    For all vehicles imported from Japan, original Japanese deregistration or export certificate showing one of the applicable emissions code character sets (in the table below) at the beginning of the industry model code.

    Examples of the certificates are set out in Schedule 1 with the emission codes circled.

  • (c)Vehicles imported from Europe

    For all used vehicles imported from Europe, the acceptable proof of exhaust emissions rule compliance for vehicles from Europe shall be required to have one of the following certifications:

    • (i)a statement of compliance listing an approved emissions standard or an appropriate EC directive as shown in Table A; or
    • (ii)an EC Certificate of Conformity (CoC) issued by the vehicle manufacturer for individual passenger cars that have undergone European Commission Whole Vehicle Type Approval (EC WVTA). The CoC is linked to the EC Whole Vehicle Approval Plate, if a vehicle has a CoC, it will also have a Whole Vehicle Approval Plate.

      A sample of a CoC is set out in Schedule 2. The emissions standard information is recorded in Item 46.1 or 48 of the CoC.
