(1) 
  • (a)A learner’s permit issued under section 57(1) of the Act is valid for 12 months from the date of issue.
  • (b)Any person issued with a learner’s permit in accordance with paragraph (a) shall also be issued with a Learner’s Work Book and a National Driving Curriculum as prescribed by the Authority.

(2) A condition or restriction imposed on a learner’s permit may include the purpose, time, or public streets on which a motor vehicle may be driven by the holder of the permit.
(3) A holder of a learner’s permit must not drive a motor vehicle on a public street, unless—
  • (a)a sign displaying the letter “L” 200 mm high and 140 mm wide in red on a white background is displayed conspicuously at the front and rear of the vehicle; and
  • (b)in the case of a motor vehicle other than a motorcycle or tractor, only one seating position in addition to the driver’s seat is occupied, and the seat is in the same general transverse plane as the driver’s seat and is occupied by—
    • (i)a person who holds a driver’s licence other than a provisional licence or a holder of a driving instructor’s permit; or
    • (ii)a driving examiner conducting a practical driving test under regulation 14.
(4) The sign required by subregulation (3)(a) must only be displayed when a vehicle is being driven by the holder of a learner’s permit.
