[INT 3] Amendments in relation to certain expressions3

Except where the context otherwise requires or where the subject or context is inconsistent with the following amendments—
  • (a)the President may proclaim the replacement of the word “native” by the word “iTaukei” in any written law in accordance with the correct grammatical context and from the date of the said proclamation all references to “native” in that written law and in all instruments, documents and legal proceedings relating thereto shall be construed as references to the new proclaimed expression;
  • (b)where in any written law, instrument, document or legal proceeding in force, made or proceeding at the commencement of this Act, the words “Colony” or “Colony of Fiji” are used or appear, they shall be replaced from such date by the word “Fiji”;
  • (c)where any Ordinance, including any Ordinance which is referred to as a Code, was in force on 10 October 1970, the word “Ordinance” used with reference to any such Ordinance in the provisions of any written law or in any document or legal proceeding may be replaced by the word “Act”;
  • (d)where in any written law, instrument, document or legal proceeding in force, made or proceeding on 5 December 1987, the word “Governor-General” is used or appears, it shall be replaced with the word “President;
  • (e)where in any written law, instrument, document or legal proceeding in force, made or proceeding on 7 October 1987, the word “Crown” is used or appears, it shall be replaced with the word “State”;
  • (f)where in any written law, instrument, document or legal proceeding in force, made or proceeding on 7 October 1987, there is any reference to the Sovereign reigning at the time of the enactment or the making of that written law such reference shall be construed from that date as a reference to the “State”;
  • (g)where in any written law, instrument, document or legal proceeding in force, made or proceeding on 4 December 1987, the word “Supreme Court” is used or appears, it shall be replaced with the word “High Court”;
  • (h)where in any written law, instrument, document or legal proceeding in force, made or proceeding on 27 July 1998, the word “Royal” in “Royal Fiji Military Forces” is used or appears, it shall be replaced with the word “Republic”;
  • (i)where any Decree was in force on 31 July 2016, the word “Decree” used with reference to any such Decree in the title or provisions of any written law or in any document or legal proceeding may be replaced with the word “Act”;
  • (j)where any Promulgation was in force on 31 July 2016, the word “Promulgation” used with reference to any such Promulgation in the title or provisions of any written law or in any document or legal proceeding may be replaced with the word “Act”;
